Yo Joe! G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra

On Friday, the much anticipated G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra takes the Hasbro classic toy line and animated daily series and puts it onto the silver screen.

I don't know who I am more excited to watch -all my favorite Joes: Snake Eyes, Scarlett, Shirpwreck and Gung Ho or Cobra, the Baroness, Storm Shadow and Destro! Although this movie is going to be jam packed with action, I am interested to see the story line they have created. I am super excited to see Cobra Commanders backstory.

After G.I. Joes sibling at Hasbro, Transformers: Rise Of The Fallen, opened to poor reviews, A lot of effort has gone into keeping this movie undercover. The movie is highly classified (like any good Joe mission should be) and no critics have been able to screen it.

Luckily, SuicideGirls have scored an interview with the writer of the film, Stuart Beattie.

This is a great quote from the article. "With real truth becomes believability. With believability comes investing with the characters, caring about what happens in the big fantastical sequence because you're invested in these characters."

At least I know Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow are gonna ninja battle hard!

Joe Shuster changed the landscape for superheroes. The bold lines and primary colors of Superman, a character he created with writer Jerry Segal, put other action figures in the shade. However unsuccessful legal action lodged in 1946 against National Allied Publications (a forerunner of DC Comics), who claimed ownership of the character, meant that Shuster and Segal missed out on the millions their character would ultimately generate. Worse still, to add insult to injury, following the court case, the duo were stripped of their byline by the publisher.

Shuster and Segal were never able to repeat the success they achieved with their Kryptonite-shy guy. In the era immediately following the war, America no longer felt the need for supermen, and their 1947 follow up, Funnyman, fell flat. By the early 1950s Shuster was reduced to drawing cartoons for cash.

Fast-forward to the mid-2000s, when a comics historian named Craig Yoe discovers a copy of the little-known underground fetish rag, Nights of Horror, in a dusty cardboard box on a book stall. Yoe thought the whip-wielding women depicted in the illustrations bore a remarkable resemblance to the nubile lines of the otherwise chaste Lois Lane. Further research proved Yoe's initial suspicions were likely correct, and with the weight of world renowned art publishers Abrams behind him, he set about compiling a comprehensive compendium of the illicit fetish art of Joe Shuster that had lain undercover for over half a century.

We caught up with Yoe on the eve of the West Coast launch of his book, Secret Identity, which will see several of Shuster's sexy panels brought to life with the help of SuicdeGirls.

Playing dress-up is always fun, and there's no better place to do it than at Comic Con(July 23-26 @ San Diego Convention Center).

Every year thousands of fans come out and pay tribute to their favorite characters. I wish I was attending this year to witness what over the top costumes will show up!

This year, the SuicideGirls, will be attending Comic Con with not one, but TWO booths! I can't wait to see what the Girls will be putting on -- and taking off -- this year at the ultimate superhero, sci-fi and genre event.

Dave Navarro Tattoo Crazy About Girl In A Coma

While on tour with Jane's Addiction, apparently guitarist Dave Navarro got so into Austin,Texas female rockers Girl In a Coma that he got a tattoo of lead singer Nina Diaz as shown above on the cover of the band's new disk, Trio BC.

Dave Navarro is not the first celebrity fan of the band, who toured with Morrissey after the ex-Smiths frontman saw them at the Viper Room.

I caught their show in Portland on July 11, which was awesome. The band continue their tour through Aug 29th.

Martin Atkins: Pigface

Pigface is a tough band to pin down. With a constantly-shifting lineup that reads like a who's-who of industrial and hard rock, it's always a surprise to see who'll show up to play on each new album, or even each night of a tour. The one constant, the man at the center of the band, is drummer/producer/impresario Martin Atkins.

Martin's credentials as a drummer are impressive: he's played with Public Image, Ltd., Ministry, and Killing Joke. He plays drums in Pigface, but he also produces, which involves managing musical contributions from around the world. The new Pigface record, 6, features members of KMFDM, Atari Teenage Riot, Apollo 440 and Zeromancer, among others.

You may know Martin as Suicide Girls' Tour:Smart columnist, offering advice and stories to bands who are looking to hit the road successfully. He also teaches classes on touring and music marketing at Columbia College in Chicago, and he's currently starting up his own hands-on school, Revolution Number Three, where students learn about the music business by working in the music business.

Martin is clearly excited about the new album and the new school, but, considering that he literally wrote the book on touring (it's called Tour:Smart), it shouldn't come as a surprise that he seems most charged up about going on tour. As he explained to Suicide Girls, absolutely anything can happen at a Pigface show. Lineups and stage sets that change every night might not make journalists or sound engineers happy, but Martin Atkins is loving every minute of it.

WOW! Marilyn Manson's Got A New Tattoo

In a recent interview Marilyn Manson revealed he had a new tattoo to mark is favorite song on his new album, The High End of Low.

The tracks on the album appear in the order they were written and recorded, and "WOW," which is track 9 on the 15 song CD, represented a turning point creatively and emotionally for him:

"The first half of the record is kind of angry, but it's bitter and it's weak and it's uncertain, which is where anger comes from, which is not where threatening comes from. There's a confidence that starts to rebuild itself, and I think that it starts right about the point of "WOW." That song sticks out to me enough that I got it tattooed on my wrist. I wanted to do a song that was everything that I had to remember represented who I am and why I started this in the first place."

Sarah Connor: The Great Tattoo Cover Up!

Who knew that Lena Headey, the actress that plays Sarah Connor in the Fox TV show The Sarah Connor Chronicles, has tattoos? And lots of them too! Apparently the folks that make the show put a lot of effort into covering them up. In a recent interview Headey says:

Question: I understand that you have quite a lot of body art.

Lena Headey: Yes.

Question: You don't really see it on Sarah Connor.

Lena Headey: Well no, because they hate that I have it. The powers that be say she would never have them...So they cover them up. I don't really mind them doing that because they're my tattoos, they're not Sarah Connor's. It's just part of being an actor.

I personally love them. I find them charming and I feel that they're part of me. A lot of people don't like them, especially in the industry, but everybody has them now. I tell you, if you could find the perfect chemistry for covering up a tattoo, you'd be a billionaire.

Question: What's your favorite tattoo?

Lena Headey: I like them all really. I've just had my back piece finished and I love that. It's a big piece on my back with peonies and swallows. It's got a lot of movement in it, and it's just something I'd always wanted to do. It goes from my lower back, it sort of curls around my womanly shapes, and then it just comes up around my shoulder.

As you can see from the image above -- there's no sign of Lena's ink work when in-character.

Exene Cervenka Diagnosed With Multiple Sclerosis

So sad, Exene Cervenka of the seminal SoCal punk band X, has announced that she has MS. A statement on her website says:

After some months of not feeling 100% healthy, I recently had some medical tests run
and the prognosis is that I am suffering from Multiple Sclerosis.
Apparently, it has been affecting me for quite some time.

Although this is obviously unfortunate news, I am choosing to see the positive in it.
I, and X as a band, have supported the Sweet Relief charity since the mid-1990's;
the irony of this is not lost on any of us. Sweet Relief was started as an aide to uninsured artists by musician Victoria Williams when she herself was diagnosed with MS in 1992.

While this diagnosis will most certainly mean some changes for me, personally, it will not affect my commitments to the current X U.S. tour, nor will it affect my solo album that is slated for release this fall on Bloodshot Records.

My focus will certainly be on maintaining my health--many people remain strong and continue to live their lives as productively as they had before an MS diagnosis and I plan to be one of those people.
